So we’d put off going to Targee for a few years because it was soo far away. It takes around six hours to get there and that makes it tough and expensive. But the team was itching to go soo Dru made it happen.
Here’s a video of me taking Millie and Emiko on the pre ride Friday afternoon. It was a nice trail to pre ride but not a super great trail to race. But check out this cool video I got.
Then we went and rode some of the close mtb trails that are fun DHs. Here’s some of the kids doing a cool jump.
Then tragedy struck when Takeshi and Dru were doing a final lap and Drus breaks decided to not work. This is what I said on Instagram:
So Dru gets his own post cause he crashed this weekend. He followed the arrow in this first pic and flew over the boulders and logs to land in a safer place in the brush. He broke his “wing” bones in all the vertebrae between the white lines in the picture swiped over. And he semi fractured his hip socket. It’ll take a while but he’ll recover. His brakes decided not to work on the berm. So that’s nice. We were entertained by our mates that night though and that lifted his spirits. Anyone wanna listen to more of this music head on over to banjo Matt and have a listen. #teamdru #gladitwasntworse #maybeitstimetoslowdown
He flew about 30 feet out and 10 feet down he said and just missed the logs and boulders. He’s extremely lucky and we’ll take it.
So it made for a rough weekend for Dru 🖤. Fortunately, we had one of our races, mothers, who specializes in backs and head injuries, and she looked after Dru for the weekend, and she felt as if he needed to check his pelvis. Then we had our other friend, David Bigelow, who gave Dru 🖤 some really nice drugs to help with the pain, and he seem to think that he broke part of his wings on his vertebrae. And it turns out they were both right. The team found it a little bit difficult without Dru 🖤 but they managed and I think appreciated Dru 🖤 for what he did. And realized that other people need to learn how to do stuff, so it’s not all on Dru . Eventually we took Dru 🖤 to the ER when we got home on Sunday night.
It was a long night and they threw out words like back surgery. But in the end they sent Dru 🖤 home with a back brace and told him to take it easy. He started doing work with a guy that our friend Corey told him about and that guy worked miracles on Drus back. He’s extremely lucky.
Here is where he broke his bones. So he must’ve landed heavily on that part of his back.
Emiko ready for her second race.
Hers emikos Start of the race.
Here’s her finish.
Here she is almost finished and just coming around the home stretch.
Here’s what I said on Instagram:
This sweet girl had her second race. It was rough. I love her. If you see her give her high-fives and hugs cause this girl deserves all of it. She’s doing hard things and is crushing it. I just love her #teamemiko
Then here’s pictures of yuki racing.
We had dinner with the Bigelow’s and Tuckers that night.
Yuki also asked Chandler if he’d go to homecoming dance with her. He said yes.
Yuki did so well. She wasn’t looking forward to it and was so proud of her times and race. So that’s awesome. She gave it her all and that’s all you can ask for. I’m so proud of her #teamyuki
Straight into cheering for teammates.
Love the group of kids.
Always a beautiful view.
Here yuki is right at the end of her race. Pooped.
Takeshi got trapped in a big crash at the beginning. He got scratched up but kept going. It was crazy. I’m glad it wasn’t worse.
Here he is getting out of it.
Here he is afterwards with friends. See how he’s got stuff on his legs? It’s from that crash right at the start. I took him over straight after his race.
Luke’s dog being our mascot. Cute.
Emiko with friends.
Takeshi at the beginning of the race.
Takeshi was run into at the beginning of the race and is somewhere in the pile up in the photo swiped over. He got up and bled the whole race and came in and I took him to the med tent. His bike will need looked at but he’s ok. Tough race but he did so well and I’m so proud of him. He’s such a vibe. #teamtakeshi
Here’s Takeshi in the middle of his race.
Wolf pack doing their cheer.
Takeshi finishing the race strong.
Here’s Takeshi almost finished and rounding the last corner.
The next day I drove the whole way home and Dru rested. We packed up and ate. We were gonna do some more riding but didn’t. We just wanted to get home. It was a crazy weekend.
